Committee Meeting Minutes

Present: Doug Lohmeier, Carolyn Smiley-Robertson, Stiney Vonderhaar, Jim Bothe, Dave Nichols, Peggy Phaff, Jim Cole, Susan VanAmerogen
I. Gorman Heritage Farm
1) Funding Renewal Presentation
i. Peggy previewed the Boards presentation to the committee outlining their needs for council to consider for the funding request. A PowerPoint presentation will be shown at the Oct. 9th council meeting for council consideration. Presentation addressed questions Council had submitted in August.
II. Fire – No report
III. Recreation
1) Additional Tennis Courts
i. Clarified the committee wanted the Rec Commission sub-committee to brainstorm on number of courts needed different locations and cost estimates.
2) 2009 Fitness Center Operation
i. Mayor has requested Dave to evaluate operation modification to reduce expenditures in the operation of the fitness center. Dave is proposing subsidizing staffing with part-time Village employees versus full-time contracted employees. Dave will experiment with this concept over the next several weeks. Carolyn requested he look into the risk management aspect.
3) Stiney preliminarily presented a budget request from Phi Lambda Pi for their 50th Anniversary. Committee recommended it be sent back and re-evaluated.
III. Service
1) Purchase of a new piece of equipment for the Service Department before the end of~ 2008
Jim presented an opportunity to trade in the current backhoe and replace it through the state bid program for money not spent this year on other capital items. Committee was in agreement.
IV. Engineering – No report
Other items:
1) Review of 2009 Budget
i. We reviewed Service Capital and decided to review the balance at the November committee meeting.
